Two-Period Inventory Control with Manufacturing and Remanufacturing under Return Compensation Policy

چکیده
As an effective way of decreasing production cost, remanufacturing has attracted more and more attention from firms. However, it also brings many difficulties to firms, especial when firms remanufacture products which they produce. A primary problem for the case is how to acquire the used product sold by the firm itself. In this paper, we consider a return compensation policy for acquiring used product from customers. Under this policy, the return quantity of used product is a proportion of demand. We study an inventory replenishment and production planning problem for a two-period inventory system with dependent return and demand. We formulate the problem into a three-stage stochastic programming problem, where the firm needs to make decisions on the replenishment quantity of new raw material inventory in each period and the production quantities of manufacturing and remanufacturingways. We give the optimal production policy ofmanufacturing and remanufacturingways for the realized demand and prove the objective function for each stage to be concave in the inventory replenishment quantity. Moreover, we prove that the basic inventory policy is still optimal for each period and give the analytical conditions of the optimal inventory levels which are unrelated to acquisition price. Finally, we investigate numerical studies to analyze managerial insights.

Coordination of manufacturing, remanufacturing and returns acceptance in hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing systems
This paper deals with the coordination of manufacturing, remanufacturing and returns acceptance control in a hybrid production-inventory system. We use a queuing control framework, where manufacturing and remanufacturing are modelled by single servers with exponentially distributed processing times. Customer demand and returned products arrive in the system according to independent Poisson proc...
متن کاملAn Imperfect Production Inventory Model with Remanufacturing of Return and Defective Items
This paper focuses on an inventory model considering imperfect manufacturing and re-manufacturing system under single management. In manufacturing system, the items are produced from original raw materials but in re-manufacturing process, returned and defective items produced in previous manufacturing process are the raw materials. Both the production system shift from ‘ in control state ‘ to ‘...

Abstract: A simple dynamic model of a hybrid manufacturing / remanufacturing system is investigated. In particular we study an infinite horizon, continuous time, APIOBPCS (Automatic Pipeline Inventory and Order Based Production Control System) model. We specifically highlight the effect of remanufacturing lead-time and the return rate on the inventory variance and bullwhip produced by the order...
متن کاملPRODUCTION INVENTORY MODEL FOR DETERIORATING ITEMS WITH SHORTAGES AND SALVAGE VALUE UNDER REVERSE LOGISTICS
In this paper, a production inventory model is developed for the business enterprise which consists of three wings. The first wing is for manufacturing new items, the second wing is for collecting the returned items, while third wing is for remanufacturing the returned item. In this model we consider the fact that the storage item is deteriorated during storage periods and salvage value is inco...
متن کاملSimple heuristics for push and pull remanufacturing policies
Inventory policies for joint remanufacturing and manufacturing have recently received much attention. Most efforts, though, were related to (optimal) policy structures and numerical optimization, rather than closed form expressions for calculating near optimal policy parameters. The focus of this paper is on the latter. We analyze an inventory system with unit product returns and demands where ...
